Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana were sentenced today to
one year and eight months in prison for tax evasion. The designers are accused
of withholding millions of euros from the Italian government. Neither of them
appeared in court for the reading, and they are expected to appeal the verdict.
You may remember that the designers
were initially acquitted of the charges in April 2011; however Italy's high court
overturned that decision. At the trial on Wednesday, Judge Antonella Brambilla sided with the prosecution, finding the pair guilty of failing to “declare euros 1 billion ($1.3 billion) in income to authorities.” They, along with a handful employees, have been sentenced to one year and eight months in prison. "Everyone knows that we haven't done
anything," Gabbana tweeted on Friday. XO Andrea
